Why Do Audiences Like Horror?

Some people may think of watching Horror films as a form of torture, which begs the following question: why would anyone want to put themselves through such fear and the expected series of sleepless nights? But avid horror lovers would disagree and say that Horror provides a delicious brand of fear which, in turn, gives them excitement and an adrenalin rush. Yes it’s scary, but in a controlled setting where the threat isn’t actually real. The suspense that is provided for the audience is wonderful, while the enigma is great for those with active minds who love to have something to work out. Also, horror films provide the audience with a sense of relief at the end, once the threat is dispatched, and they can provide escapism for those who may have problems at home or in the work place, allowing them to get away from their troubles for a while and enjoy a good horror film. Some might say that they compare what they see in horror films to what is happening in own their lives to realise that they actually haven’t got it as bad as those in the films.
